Llibre de comptes, 1652-1658

From the reading of the Account Book of the Catarroja’s council (1652 – 1659), an unexacting document with the accounting information regarding the expenses and income of the municipal Council of Catarroja, Montserrat Manent has created a book of poems. In Accounts Book, the author does a not so easy literary exercise and every verse stands out. Headed by entries of the accounts books that inspire her work, through which women and men of the place march. She creates literature from a documental drought and makes metaphors inspired and suggested by the town and its people, trades, poverty, charity, illnesses and death, disputes, violence…. She deals with the universe of the church, music, readings, dead people, cultivations and, even, with the fees and salaries. Verses of hope and of hopelessness. Attitudes of life. She moves us making us live the life of others, and without losing sight of them, ours too.
