Catalonia has been for a long time a politically and socially conflictive society wich has periodically burst in revolutionary episodes and social violence. This book presents a panoramic of the mechanisms of control and social repression from the foundation of the country in the Middle Ages until the consolidation of the political model created by the Generalitat from the approval of the Estatut d’Autonomia from 1979 and until 2019. It can be followed across it’s complex proccess wich begins by self-organizing of the comunity for its defence and medieval submission and the hardships of the modern monarchy to introduce it’s own power between the jurisdictional plurality of the feudal world wich was imposed with the borbonic system after the Succession War, wich annuled the traditional ways of defence and created one of the first european police corps, the mossos d’esquadra in 1719. The deployment of liberal order in the XIX century created new police forms of state field linked to the defence of the interests of priviledged groups and only during the Second Republic did an effort to replant the police model of the country, a wasted opportunity. The Franco regime, instead was based in the police corps of state field specialized in the crackdown of the population, with the use of discriminated violence both in protests at the streets and the control of the members of the anti-francoist resistance. This historical trajectory of police corps more worried about defending the power of the state and the ruling class than the rights of the citizens was very present in the construction of it’s own police model of the the actual mossos d’esquadra, wich was built in a long and ardous process with the central State until the 2019.
