Xavier Ferré’s research represents the first systematic effort to overcome the fragmented and fragmentary vision of Rovira i Virgili’s work. It offers us a united interpretation of these works from the study and analysis of different facets of his personality. Ferré has dived into the huge production of the author from Tarragona since he began writing in the federal press of the early twentieth century to the last unpublished texts already published in France during his brief exile. Following in such a documented way the intellectual production of Antoni Rovira, ha has succeeded in finally being able to understand clearly the theoretical bases that allowed him to make the leap from the formulation of cultural nation to that of the political nation. Ferré explains the theoretical evolution that lead him to make this jump from the central role that Rovira gives to the national conscience and political will, the differences between the federalism of Pi i Margall and that of Rovira, and the central role that it has in its fight for a democratic Catalonia, the historical disclosure and the interrelation between this combat and the other processes of European national liberation.
