Stories and conquests of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Principality of Catalonia ㅡcollected and arranged by the knight Bagà Pere Tomicㅡ put together one of the most relevant texts of the historical chronology of Catalonia and the Crown of Aragon since Wilfred the Hairy. They were written during the first half of the 15th century and finished in 1438. Stories and conquests is not only a historical memorial but also a compilation of a lot of historiographical keys that had a major influence in the writing of the medieval and modern chronicles. The inclusion of these keys meets the historiographical importance they had, especially those that linked the national forge to the origins of Catalonia. Stories and conquests are a faithful reflection of the political transition period that took place in the Principality during the 15th century, a period in which nobility saw that the hegemonic position exerted until then was crumbling and so they hurried to find features of social differentiation using an important weapon: lineage. Tomic endowed the most powerful Catalan aristocracy with historical legitimacy, almost parallel to that of the counts of Barcelona, as it happened with the legend of the nine barons of fame, thus establishing a way of contention to the increasing absolutist desire of the Trastámara monarchy.
