This book places, for the first time, Josep Bernat i Baldoví’s literary and journalistic productions inside the cultural context of his time and inside the literary and linguistic tradition to which he belongs. In the works of the writer from Sueca concur several literary influences involved in the popular comic culture and of costom and manners, like: literature of ‘caña y cordel’, prose of manners, burlesque comedy, interludes, poems of absurdities and erotic and festive poetry. The book shows and analyses the rhetoric and creative work of Bernat i Baldoví about the linguistic mechanisms and the precision in which he captured and reproduced the popular and colloquialisms of Valencian of the first half of the 19th century.
